Filler (hyaluronic acid)

What is it for?
Cross-linked hyaluronic acid is used to build up volume. Free (non-cross-linked) hyaluronic acid is a natural component of our skin that stores water and makes the skin look elastic and plump. A hyaluronic acid booster (Profhilo – see mesotherapy) can moisturise the skin and smooth out fine wrinkles. However, you need cross-linked hyaluronic acid if you want to replace lost volume or give the face a better contour.
What do I have to consider before treatment?

Blood thinners should not be taken until 1 week before the treatment (e.g. Aspirin, Marcoumar, Ibuprofen, etc.)

Avoid caffeine/tea and alcoholic drinks (e.g. cola, energy drinks, coffee, green tea, etc.) 24 hours before the treatment.

It is best not to put make-up on and be well nourished for the treatment

if you suffer from herpes, we recommend taking antivirals prophylactically (these can be prescribed by your GP)

How does the treatment work?

Fotos are taken.

The skin is cleansed and disinfected.

The area where the product is to be applied is marked except for the lips.

A local anaesthetic is usually not necessary as the products already contain anaesthetics.

The product is then injected under the skin using a needle or cannula.

The skin is then cleansed again.
Risks and side effects
- common: redness, swelling and haematoma (bruising), pain, a feeling of pressure and tension, nodules or asymmetries due to the swelling
- Rarely: nodules/granuloma formation, activation of herpes, migration of the filler, infections
- very rare: allergy or anaphylaxis, tissue death (necrosis), blindness (when treating the face), Tyndall effect (blue shimmering through of the filler), malar oedema (bulging swelling on the cheekbone)

Contraindication
Age under 18 years, pregnancy/breastfeeding, acute illness such as flu/cold, acute skin diseases in the area to be treated (e.g. acne, herpes), intolerance/allergy to the products used (e.g. hyaluronic acid, local anaesthetic), known anaphylaxis, antibiotic or cortisone therapy, acne medication up to 6 months before the planned treatment (e.g. Roaccutane, Tretinac, vitamin A).
